FDA acknowledges toxic effects of mercury in fillings!
Thanks to the tireless, multi-year efforts of people like Charles Brown,
National Counsel for Consumers for Dental Choice and the organization Moms
Against Mercury, the FDA has now been forced to acknowledge a fact so
fundamental that, by any measure of honest science, it should have adopted the
position decades ago. What position is that? Simply that mercury is toxic to
humans.
The result of the lawsuit is the reluctant agreement by the FDA to both change
its website on the issue of mercury and to reclassify mercury within one year,
following a period of public comment. They have already changed the wording on
their web site to "Dental amalgams contain mercury, which may have neurotoxic
effects on the nervous systems of developing children and fetus."
To submit your comments regarding mercury being reclassified as a toxic
substance, please:
-
Visit http://www.regulations.gov
-
In the “search” field, type in case number “FDA-2008-N-0163”
-
Under the heading “Health Centered Dentistry – Comments”, click on “send a
comment or submission”
-
In drop-down box, choose “individual consumer”
-
Under organization, type “none”
-
Insert your comments in the comment box – use your own words, and let the FDA
know your concerns about mercury use, and that current alternative materials
make mercury fillings completely unnecessary in today’s dentistry
If you are unable to submit online, you can also submit comments by fax to
